Are Alpacas safe for young children?

Yes. Alpacas are gentle and placid animals and very easy to manage. They do not bite or head but. They have only one set of, relatively soft, teeth and they do not have horns, claws or hooves. Their most aggressive behaviour is to spit. They will do this to each other from time to time, particularly when feeding, but rarely to humans unless they are badly treated. Although the resultant smell can vary from mild to unpleasant it can be washed off and is harmless. They may occasionally give a kick with a back leg if crowded into a small space and stressed but this is rarely severe as their feet are soft.
